Our Passion

Odir's vision is to serve voluntarily in local churches where the Brazilian pastor is either alone in ministry or bi-vocational, therefore assisting them in training leaders and building a pastoral team. Odir loves preaching the Word of God. He wants to reach the lost and equip local churches in São Paulo and Diadema by using preaching and teaching as his primary ministry. Cynthia’s passion includes teaching children and women’s ministries.

Together we have a heart for premarital and marriage counseling. We also love to challenge, disciple and counsel young adults through camping ministries, small groups and more.

Where are we serving

We are primarily serving in two local churches, and they are about 30 minutes apart from each other.

Good News Baptist Church (Igreja Batista Boas Novas):

  • a revitalization ministry in DIADEMA

This is a local church on the outer suburbs of São Paulo, in a smaller city called Diadema. While we were on furlough in the States in 2020, this church communicated to us that their pastor resigned, whom had been pastoring them since the beginning more than 30 years ago. The resignation of their former pastor unfortunately also made many people leave the church, bringing the attendance to about 15 people. We arrived in São Paulo to serve at Good News BC in September 2020.

We praise the Lord for His work in this local church. By His grace, we were able to help the church to heal from their wounds from the past and to grow in forgiveness, thankfulness and spiritual maturity. Now we are about 60 in attendance.

Pastor Messias Santos, the new Brazilian pastor, also works fulltime at the Baptist Seminary of Sao Paulo. Odir is serving alongside him to reestablish this church and to make a new impact to the community of Diadema, with exciting new opportunities for evangelism and discipleship.

Goals for 2026-2030: Get people well equipped and ready to serve in different new ministries; start an evangelism and discipleship center at the church to encourage outreach opportunities around the streets of Diadema. Expand the auditorium (right now the capacity is only 80 people seated). Expand the back-lot of the church.

New Life Baptist Church (Igreja Batista Vida Nova):

  • Leadership training and marriage counseling in São Paulo

From 2015 to 2017 we served in this church while they were the newest church-plant in the city. Since then, we rent the facility of the Baptist Seminary in a very well located metro area for our Sunday services and we do other activities during the week with small groups in homes.

Odir served alongside a Brazilian Pastor called Wilson Rocha and helped organizing the church legally. Being very well located, the church grew quickly and now has about 150 people in attendance (altought the rotation of people coming and going is also a challenge due to the metro area with students and families moving in and out very quickly).

Later in 2022, we saw a need to return to this church to help in some specific areas. Since then, we started a new ministry for married couples. Also, we are heavily investing in discipleship and training of leaders, especially building a new leadership team for the youth and young adult ministry.

Odir also preaches regularly and sometimes we even do joint projects between New Life BC and Good News BC.

Goals for 2026-2030: Expand the premarital and marriage counseling ministry. Cynthia is excited to expand the women's ministry and to be a helper to the pastor's wife. This church does not have their own building yet, so we are praying together with them for the big goal of being financially able to purchase a property in the future! God is able!

Other Projects

We serve in the leadership team of two projects in partnership with the Association of Regular Baptist Churches from the State of São Paulo:

UJUBRE: This is a youth and young adult ministry organization. We plan conferences, soccer tournaments and camps.

SAIBRES: This is a women’s ministry organization. Cynthia is especially involved in the planning, collaboration and the design of the Women’s Magazine called “Missão Mulher”, with a circulation of 1,000 prints per issue.
